Holiday Inn Central

The Holiday Inn Central was probably one of the better hotels I've stayed in. It's a Holiday Inn, so one knows what to expect, but this hotel offered so much more. At ten stories high, it is one of the taller hotels in the city. Not only is it just four blocks from Metro Central (where one can catch the Red Line and go just about anywhere in this Monumental City), it's is just six blocks from the North Lawn of the White House. The Mall is just a block or two further, where the majority of the sites are literally within walking distance. The hotel itself straddles the border of Downtown and the Dupont Circle neighborhood which is the historically gay-friendly neighborhood, complete with excellent restaurants, shopping, and a Whole Foods (just two blocks away) for those who wish to picnic in their room. A bar, a restaurant and a gift shop can be found in the lobby, parking is in a secure garage underneath the hotel, and the block itself is very quiet at night with minimal street noise. All the rooms feature pillow-top mattresses and super soft sheets. Room service is available until 10pm and there is a pool on the roof, where one can survey a good chunk of the surrounding neighborhood and watch most excellent sunsets. A truly enjoyable experience.
