Sobrino de Botin

World's Oldest Restaurant

Yellow Yellow Yellow Yellow Yellow

Just a short walk down the hill from the Plaza de Mayor in Madrid is the 285 year old restaurant that is purported to be the world's oldest. If you ever find yourself unexpectedly in Madrid, looking for a place to eat, this establishment will not disappoint. It has been several years since I dined there, at the time it was only 275 years old. I am certain the food selection is still as tasty now as it was then.

We were fortunate enough to have a local as host and were therefore treated to a selection of what seemed to be the entire menu. We wined and dined for at least three to four hours. Leisurely dining at its best and the service over that time period was exceptional. Truly old world flavor.

If only the walls could talk and my working knowledge of the Spanish tongue was up to snuff. For those who find themselves in Madrid, hungry and homesick, there is a McDonald's just off the other side of the Plaza.
