Weck’s has seven locations in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as well as three restaurants in other cities (Los Lunas, NM, Rio Rancho, NM and Lewisville, TX). Lewisville is near Dallas; the two New Mexico towns are, respectively, south and north of Albuquerque.
The places tend to be large, airy, and pleasant. The wait staff is courteous, prompt and knowledgeable. Their specialty is carne adovada, a New Mexican marinated and simmered red chili pork. It is hot (picante) and tasty. The orange juice tastes fresh squeezed and the coffee is good. Be warned that servings are huge. Really huge. This is the restaurant where Albuquerque’s heavy eaters go. And they are large enough that if you are over-weight, you will feel slim. It is one of the best places in town for breakfast. The carne adovada breakfast ($8.99) is a large plate layered generously with home fries (also excellent), smothered with lots of carne adovada and topped with two eggs any style. Almost every place in the slightest Mexican in Albuquerque serves carne adovada, and Weck’s is among the best. This is a must for breakfast and good for any meal. Real New Mexican cooking.
