One of the more beautiful drives is that from the mouth of the Russian River (Jenner) through Bodega Bay, then Tomales, and finally in Muir Woods, just north of San Francisco... Few drive the coast road; they miss all this!

Bodega Bay is the setting of Hitchcock's The Birds. I have never been lured by the popular glitz of California's reputation (in spite of my love for the movies) but I very much want to drive the coast road someday.
