The Chrysler Building was briefly the tallest building in the world, but then along came the Empire State Building in 1931.... I agree with DreadPirateRoberts; it is much, much sexier than it's 'younger sister'....
You're absolutely right. In fact, the Chrysler Building was in competition with the Bank of Manhattan (at #40 Wall Street). Both of them were being built at the same time and the two architects were both covetous of the crown for tallest building in the world. 40 Wall won the race when they finished their spire. But the Chrysler building's needle had been designed in such a way to be erected in two days by being pushed up from inside the spire. So 40 Wall Street wound up with the dubious distinction of having been the tallest building in the world for the shortest amount of time... one week.
DPR,
A pretty good case can be made for The Chrysler- No?
S
I hope I made that case. No?
