Yesterday's Discussion

Early in "The War of the World" -- PBS's very own entry into the lists of revisionist tracts about World War II now clamoring for attention -- historian Niall Ferguson appears on camera to tell how he had been deceived about that war.

I've gone to my farm in Kentucky for the weekend. It's a great place to relax, do a little hard physical labor, and forget about the rest of the world. If you don't have such a place, I highly suggest you get one.

In the meantime, here's a little something that I found for you to read with your morning coffee.

See you on Monday.

Beleive it or not, Formula 1 racing is a passion of mine. However, I am not really familiar with the Grand Prix. Give me the Indy 500... a hot pit pass, a seat in the owners suite, a cool drink, and I am very happy. Sorry to hear there is any kind of trouble in the sport of F1 racing, but there seems to be a buzz about something most of the time. Have a nice weekend on the farm.

I remember reading an article about the great Jim Clark in a Chicago Tribune Sunday Magazine when I was about 10 years old and I became hooked on everything Grand Prix immediately. When he was killed in an accident, however, that seemed to take the starch out of it it for me, although I always have admired the tremendous skills and courage of the drivers. It's a shame that politics and big business have become so much of a distraction from the pure excitement generated by the pursuit of glory on the track.

I've watched the Formula 1 races from time to time, and I'm a fan of the Indy 500. I'd like to see a Formula 1 style car speed around an Indy 500 track. I realize there's a difference between an Indy and a Formula 1 car, but it would be interesting.

I also like the 24 hour Le Mons.

Here in L.A. we have the Long Beach Grand Prix......very exciting to see in person.

O.K. Now I "feel the need for speed", so I'll be taking my SUV off-roading a little later today.

Hey, I was having another "senior moment"....I meant to say "Le Mans" not "Le Mons'.
