Socrates devoted his life towards seeking the truth and it eventually killed him. Which leads us to ask is a thoroughly examined life the only kind worth living?

I've gone to my farm in Kentucky for the weekend. It's a great place to relax, do a little hard physical labor, and forget about the rest of the world. If you don't have such a place, I highly suggest you get one.
In the meantime, looks like we will go another year without a Triple Crown.
See you on Monday.

From:CNN
I guess I'll settle for a Royal Crown....and a Moon Pie
Too bad, Reddham won't be having another.
Now I'll watch it on TV instead of going to Ocean Downs.
We may all be disappointed, and it does take a certain excitement out of the Belmont, but the horse, who goes out to stud, has a big smile on his face
At the scottish highland games in the north georgia mountains. Men in kilts. No winds blowing' across the fields.
It would be exciting to witness a Triple Crown winner. However, I am glad those responsible made the diffiicult but correct choice to pull this horse from the race. Do you remember the horse who ran the Belmont or Preakness a few years ago? At the end of the race, the jockey jumped off his ride and held his leg. This horse eventually had to be put down due to injury. Since then I can hardly stand to watch the races. I don't want to see anyone get hurt.
SPRING RAIN:
I think that was Barbaro at the Preakness that got injured.
You're right they were responsible to pull this beautiful animal before the injury got worse.
I'm not knowledgeable about racing horses, but I'd pulled for I'll Have Another because his name caught my ear. So I followed him.
Disappointed for him and his owner, yes, but outrage followed disappointment when I watched an interview with (I've forgotten his name! Someone will know...), an expert and old-timer in the field, who posited that horse-racing has changed for the worse in recent years: That horses are abused in subtle ways, reducing their racing lives.
Perhaps I missed it, but nowhere in our "parallel reading" article did I find any mention of this. I'd like to hope it's not a fact....
It is sad that there will be no Triple Crown winner this year. I feel really sad for Mario Gutierrez. The jockey of I'll Have Another. This would have been an amazing acheivement for him. I know his hometown of Veracruz, Mexico is already proud of him. I just wish that they could have seen him win the Belmont Stakes, and get the Triple Crown., That would have been really nice.
I like watching the Human race, like from a streetside table on a Boulavard , an umbrella drink, sipped under a shade umbrella, ahhhh,a breeze, making the Ladies hold their large brimmed floppy hats, while allowing the swirling skirts to make men's hearts flutter.....
I am disappointed. Of course I am glad the owners were able to see the profit of stud fees vs. Triple Crown glory but still, it would have been a thrill. Following the horses was my parents' interest, not mine once I stopped riding myself. But watching the Kentucky Derby IS something I am hardwired to do and in fact forced my daughter to sit and watch with me this year. She doesn't get misty when they sing "My Old Kentucky Home" but she understood the significance of the race in our family. Lo and behold, what a race! We were both on our feet as I'll Have Another crossed the finish line. She arrived with drinks & bacon wrapped waterchestnuts for the Preakness and again we were not disappointed. Suspect she won't show up for the Belmont today.
Enjoy your weekend and eat hearty~!
Welcome Virginia!
Wonder how many people who had planned to watch the Belmont won't tune in now that there is no possibility of a triple crown winner. There are all those advertisers who opt in for a few minutes to hawk their product, and this disappointment will lose viewers.
It was the right choise for many reason, and to me for the horse's well being is the most important. It's just sad the I'll Have Another will be disappointed, too.
I'll Have Another not running for the Triple Crown is kinda sad...but don't worry about him. He's gonna be OK. I can hear him now "I'll have another, please. Thank you!"
Tonite in the club car, anyone saying "I'll have another" will get another......
.....And I'm not horseing around....
Enjoy Kentucky! Beautiful farm! Hmmmm. Paolos.... I'd like to be at the Scottish Highland games!! Love men in kilts! :)
So there is life on the planet! I know nothing about American horse racing, but am glad I'll have another was withdrawn if he was unfit to run. Men in kilts tossing the cabre, playing bagpipes and eating haggis sounds like much more fun.
Miss Haze and Miss CinderRose
Bagpipes! A three hour drive home and I can still hear the pipes and drums. The games were fun to watch. We had a friend competing for the first time. Even with his year of dedicated training, he was done in by the competition. The seven events took the best part of the day and if there is one man without a sore arm or back, I'd like to shake his hand. For those who have not seen a caber toss, here is a little taste of how it goes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujpfCRpqkFs At today's games, two competitors cracked the caber and it had to be patched with (what else?) duct tape.
Miss Mooseloop ~ There is another day of Men in Kilts tomorrow. It's only a short ride for you, down the road and around the bend. I am done in, y'all have a good rest of the night.
Paolos you've left me with a terrible visual of brave, kilted men dealing with a fierce tailwind using...*ouch* ...duct tape.
what about the 'Dwarf tossing'? has that been outlawed?
I think they halted that event the terrible year of the "Piper Down" incident. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e1dYIWu2ME&feature=player_embedded
At the Highland Games in Sarnia, Onatario, my refusal of the included side of mushy peas almost brought the festivities to a halt. I had to explain myself to three persons in the food tent.
JaxZ ~
Nice reference.
Better, you might say, for I'll Have Another to fail to show at the gate at the Belmont Stakes, than to show up on the plates as Belmont steaks.
Take one down pass it around…
