I've gone to my farm in Kentucky for the weekend. It's a great place to relax, do a little hard physical labor, and forget about the rest of the world. If you don't have such a place, I highly suggest you get one.

In the meantime, even if you're not into the Big Game here's something to chew on.

See you on Monday.

My Super Bowl meal plan:

Some barbecue.

Some chili.

What I wish I had made plans to include:

Some red beans and cornbread.

But no use being greedy.

That can wait for another day.

the plan is for negative calories..that way, what ever you don't eat today gives you a score of things that do not put on weight, nor build bad cholesterol,so you can eat them another day, without guilt....nah...what fun would that be? You may not get another chance...GO FOR IT!!!   Besides, if you are not playing in the game, real or fantasy, what else will you be able to brag/complain about tomorrow at the water cooler?

I like the 4 quarter constant grazing approach accommodated by various assortments of salty chips, particularly Scoops and a medley of dips- Guac, spinach artichoke, salsa, queso and the like and then there are mixed nuts. Stuffing with heavy dishes takes away my edge and beer space. Not so for Veggies in Ranch. Game Face on but...In my heart I unquestionably know that the Creator of this big cosmic production is aware of what is going on and that I should just sit back, calm down, and enjoy the game knowing that nothing matters but everything does. It's entertainment not life or death. But if I were in Indy, I would visit St Elmo's one of the best steakhouses in America sporting my duster. NE by 10 but it could go either way.

Did the term over-hyped exist before the Super Bowl or was it coined to for the occasion?
Too long to wait, too much speculation about it, too much advertising and an over-the-top half-time ceremony that takes way too much time and very often stinks.
Not sour grapes… I felt the same way last year.
The game could be okay having as it does no really hatable team and promising a lot of passing.
Giants by three.

As a Giants fan living in New England, today is not a day for casual conversation downtown for me. I would like to amaze and astound you with my incredibly clever and innovative menu for the festivities, but it just isn't that type of occasion for me. If you stop by my daughter's house however, I am sure she is serving elk meatballs with green chile dipping sauce and all kinds of goodies including a hefty serving of Bronco Humble Pie. However she WAS born in New York, New York. So nice they named it twice.

The important work of moving the football forward does not wait to be done by the Receiver,( all though, Swans charging jump catch...always impressed me...Brady swift...running...and holding on to the football with stickum...fingers...,and any Army vs Navy college game...i will be attentive.).but whose playing?....seriously, i usually promise myself to watch the last quarter...and half-time today, my girlfriend, one of the bestest friends...told me, "Ginger,,,MaDonna is singing half-time...so i shouldn't miss half -time..and the commercials ...she says are something I can not miss....but i have spared myself from over food indulgence foody taco chip parties since the age of 23...and do not see myself changing, all that i can accomplish during the seconds, minutes, and hours of gameday play, I usually get another sewing, outing to the museum, or tea at the Frick, or reading a great novel...completed...does not wait to be done by the Receiver, but by the FANS!!!! enjoy the game....Rolling Rock Beer on the HOUSE!!!

Stoney ~ Yesssssss, Giants by whatever it takes.

Food for an eclectic group with eclectic tastes:  Shrimp and crab with cocktail sauce; wings, dips and chips, veggies, hummus with pita chips, a really nice cheese with olives in it (got it from Trader Joe's, I love when they feed me); I think that's it for the pre-dinner stuff.  Dinner - tenderloin (also chicken for those who don't), sweet potatoes, mac and cheese for those who only eat mac and cheese (annoying group sometimes), carrot soup, broccoli, breads.

Dessert - eclairs, chocolate football cake with chocolate icing and a killer Berger Cookie pie, also fruit - an eatathon -- sorry RY

O, thank goodness, there is still life on the planet. I just went out to get milk and the roads are deserted because there is a Wales v Ireland rugby match on. If you didn't know, you'd suspect that the Star Ship Enterprise called by and beamed everybody up to another place. It's a Celtic thing, the Wales v Ireland match and the only thing on the menu is beer. (Long break in typing - Mother 'phoned) If I was hostessing the boyos round to watch the match on a screen as big as my double bed, I'd feed them cawl (Welsh soup) recipe variable - mine is leek and potato with bite size chunks of bacon, then later, Lobscowse - a cheap 'n cheerful belly warming stew. Mountains of soda bread for mopping up.

Hello to all Villagers! Looks like a fine day for recipes and mouth-watering descriptions of favorites! That link at top for SB Nation has some good ones!

Baby back ribs are marinating for the grilling later in the day, and I will make a skillet of creamed corn (fresh from a friend's garden), honey baked beans, salad, and corn bread with onions in it. That's for late in the day, around supper time.

Just us, no guests, tho we were invited to a friend's Super Bowl party...too far, too late, and to noisy/busy. We'd rather enjoy our own version right here. With a crowd there are those who talk over the action, so you can't hear the calls, those who argue with every play, and those who just get too much to drink and get belligerent, so I vote NO on SB parties. Been there, done that -- No thanks.

Dessert is merely homemade vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and creme de menthe drizzled over...a nice contrast to the heavy supper meal.

Don't care which team wins, but my fellow has picked Giants, but only by one point. The sun is out now for the first time in several days....about 45 degrees outside, and drying out from the drenching rain of last night. Went to Provino's Italian for a friend's birthday last night with the "girls," and had my favorite there, Eggplant Parmigiana with meat sauce. Life is good.

The half time show will feature homemade cream o leek, shallot potato and mushroom soup (
goat milk of course), a duet of freshly roasted herbed chickens , a rice pilaf and
a nice winter salad staring arugula, pears, walnuts a few blue cheese crumbles
and a homemade olive oil and lemon juice vinaigrette. For dessert, a glass of Obsidian
Ridge Cab and some Brix chocolate. There will be enough for instant replays Monday

Is it a bad thing that I am MORE excited about tonites Episode of Downton Abbey, than this game or the halftime show?

I was going to wtch ot for the commercials, but it seems all the fuun ones have been leaked on every TV news/tabloid show & all over the web. I have tried avoid seeing them, but I am very disapointed with the premarketing of them & I out of spite I REFUSE now to watch & give them any ratings share for it.

A bright spot for this week for me is that I have a Job Interview with a TV Station in Madison on Thursday! I am Quite Excited, Nervous, & Scared...

Violet Rose ~ This is important and that's
why I am speaking boldly.  In the past, when it was brewed in the glass
lined tanks of OLD LATROBE,
Rolling Rock was my beer of choice.  Now that
it is brewed in New Jersey, I am not as fond of it as I was. It tastes like
Budweiser. I know that the majority of American beer drinkers think that BUD is
how a beer should taste, but I am not one of them and I am sorely distressed
that Rolling Rock is not what it used to be.  They can't tell me that the water
and the tanks do not impart flavor to the beer.  That's like saying the skillet
and the oil aren't contributory to the flavor of the meal.  Balderdash! I just
don't buy it and Syd refuses to drink it.  Please petition the
Pennsylvania legislature to bring Rolling Rock back to Latrobe where it belongs.
I will support this movement in future posts and will also check back with you
on your progress.  Pats by 33.

Paolos and
VR

We got out of the Biz just as Coors was sold to Miller who is now SABMiller and Bud was
sold to InBev( who owns the Rolling Rock brands.)

For about 2 years before we cashed in our chips, we would not know who owned the brands we sold, almost on a month to month basis due to mergers, buy outs and consolidations. Our family business,
established in 1946 was a part of the Golden Age of American Brewing; the old (German
by decent) beer barons were fierce competitors but treated their wholesalers like family and were a great and honorable bunch to work with. That era in American business and industry is gone, never to be seen again I fear.

One has to be a home brewer or drink micros or beers like Sam Adams or Yuengling  to drink "American" these days.

Even Shiner is owned by Gambrinus.

I will be more polite and caring not to talke about topics that smart out the others..... but here on the Eye I have not seen not one person who did not advertise who they were.or their wares from their frontal lobes....sure we are going into a kick or so...a quirk...************I have not been back in awhile..not just freeform writing but social networking for me is still in the beginning stages...i feel like an Old Fashion...OOlogist, who goes constantly bird watching in nature...finds more joy  and more easily adapts to the outdoor woods....then gossip talk on the computer screen..then next thing, as it goes, you  lose touch and lose pace with the one touch remote...world...and with computer reality....some people do not like the way you think or write........I have a family home in the mountains...this posting routine is just a practice rehearsal for me...........********************************* ***************************************************************************Let me leave you with these few words...*********************************************************************VOGUE, I am too, VOGUE for some and I got the golden honey right here in my heart...so to finalize this post,,,,I leave you with this note:It's a small nugget of wisdom that's worth sharing: "If your notion of a personal God leads you to denigrate other people or to run other people down or condemn other beliefs, then just question it a moment and ask yourself if you're really listening to your god or to yourself." Isn't the wonderful?..It is. As is he....Some people in this village don't even give a new person a chance. and all the true colors come out in the wash.....i am not in competition and i just want to fit in...so i may not write and express myself so literatally the greatest, but I am not competing for a Gold Medal...am just luxuriated...so village keep up the good wontinue to be yourselves....so to the village, I am too Vogue for you....babe.... maybe just sometimes....peekaboo to you...you all fun and dandy...see you at the Clubhouse...this is a note from a Sophistic Thinker...even when its freeform...
Was'nt Madonna wonderful at Halftime! Peace Out!

Tommy ~ St. Elmo’s Fire.
It’s the cocktail sauce for the jumbo shrimp.  You should wear the authentic fireman’s coat (no.
3499). Save the duster for Kansas City.

What a game!

Stoney! You were so close.

I'm sure it won't be surprised to learn that after learning Tom Brady did an Ugg boot shoot, I rooted for the Giants.

Violet, I suppose that was a bit shallow of me and you are certainly entitled to write about whatever you wish. My opinion of what you say just doesn't matter anyway so I' ll refrain from reading and commenting on it. I just don't get it which, I am sure, is my loss.

To paraphrase a quote from one of my favorite movie, ma'am, I shall not inflict my opinions upon you any further.

Fitting in here is pretty easy.....like a puzzle piece....each has it's own shape that will connect with some but not everyone....but it still makes a nice picture when it comes together.

It was a good halftime show.

Actually, we did find a nice quiet restaurant.  We are both introverts, so we never like loud, noisy restaurants.  We have a circuit of places we go to, mostly ethnic and frequently inexpensive.  Our choice tonight was an Afghan place in Falls Church that has been around for at least 30 years.  Great food, quiet atmosphere, and good conversation.  Isn't that what dinner is all about?

Oh yes, one criterion for our restaurant was that there be no television.  I find their presence in a restaurant obnoxious.  And if there are two or more, that means the place is hell.

MissIve ~
I hear you baby… if you have not seen the video of him responding to music (carnivále), don't look for it.
Most guys would rather be video taped on the floor in a pool of their own vomit than to be seen dancing like that.
So nice to see your words again… got any more?

Chef Deb ~

I tried. It was a nice game.

Peter Lake....I behaved with coyness....That is all.....I should not have put your name in lead of that long last post..this is awkward... that you just responded too....forgive me...I was needed your wisdom that is all the post was not directed at you..maybe, I just felt safer with leading your name in the forefront of that post, since you are a monitor of sorts...please forgive me, again I do not want you to feel abashed..you so bravely responded...oh no, I truly want your opinion....especially, I will probably not allow myself forgiveness from lacking a mere consciousness of fit reason. Coy..Yes, I was coy.alittle eccentric..and just was giving a little lash out....i just felt that maybe, certain people, who are to quick to the draw..with it being too personal in this opinion post method...this is more difficult.to try to explain....then it probably should be.  Include oneself emersed in the center of a group...one gives a yoddle to the other in support..as well as they should..; I am new...and need to wade in the water a little longer before diving in too deep with my talkative information. I finding out that I am seriously taking all this opionion stuff to heart like a drama..I may not be a candidate for this debate group...my mind whirls too much...so now I will take one week off...and plan a better presentation on linear thinking..when I arrive back onboard..Auf Vidershen! Thank you Peter Lake you are quite a wonderful Thinker and Writer.... I bid you adieu!

V R, Not to worry. Just remember that real boats rock. All of us here step in it occasionally, I lost count of the times I loosed an arrow that I couldn't call back.

Just an FYI , Miss Blue is a great source for honest and helpful feedback and brings a lot to the party on many levels. Most of us do in our own way.

Peace out.....

I went to the local water-front bar to collect my 'booty' from the 'square' card..(of course, 1/2 the proceeds to an injured fellow with more bills than insurance) I DID in fact make a good choice of random squares...hahaha...and I partook of a few Guiness pints, and some pulled pork buffet, but the down side- - - and some, if all here, may know, that every time the crowd shouted"ELI", I whipped around to see, and now I have a sore neck...hahahaha

Honor Roll

still thinking about today...
