I've gone to my farm in Kentucky for the weekend. It's a great place to relax, do a little hard physical labor, and forget about the rest of the world. If you don't have such a place, I highly suggest you get one.
In the meantime, here's a bit about "the only undiscovered national historic site".
J. Peterman
From:reuters
I'm back. While in DC I took quite a spill. I'm in a leg stablelizer now. I had to have exrays on my knee, strenum and right chest. And a cat scan on my head.
I just got out of the foot boot about 5 weeks ago.
Going to bed and will check the topic in the AM.
Good morning to you all.
Korthal...sending you some healing karma and prayers for a quick and complete recovery.
korthal~ How awful to bump your head and bash your chest and hurt your leg ...... I did a fall down in the garden recently and my left knee is violet, yellow, green and ouchy! Good to see you back Stay in bed and we will bring you a prettily prepared breakfast.
Korthal....heal quickly and stay that way!
I will add my wishes and prayers for healing, Korbal. At least the DC weather is a bit cooler. I am in Arlington, actually. My sense is that today's topic has generated little enthusiasm. If they do find these two ships, what then? Tours? A visitors' center perched on the ice? Haul the ships south? Who cares? I've noticed recently that our village has gotten billboards - that the "topic" has led to advertising for J. Peterman's goods. I'm not sure I would recommend that; seems to sully the whole enterprise. I am back in school with classes starting up for fall semester at the local community college. I am taking the courses to become a substance abuse counselor. The course is interesting.
Wow, the trials that befall us. I,also, have of late been saying "OW" when I arise from a crouch,or kneel, in the course of my daily endeavor. It started right after the day I wore my Masi warrior shoes. Let me explain, for those not knowing; There is/was a company in Switzerland that designed a shoe based on the healthy barefoot profile of African warriors. They patented this design, that looks like a shoe with a rounded sole. It makes you rock forward and back,as you walk. It supposedly would strengthen your core,as you walk. I bought mine to do that, as I spend much more time sitting these days, and wanted to gain tone as I walked. Nowhere was there a warning to get yourself used to these,by adding time daily, after starting with only a few moments. I abused my tendons, I abruised my tendons. And I found out how much slower we heal at double sixs than at,say 35... I am still limbre, and can now,7 or 8 weeks later, have full, almost, range of motion, but getting up from behind a cooling system, I say "OW"...I can't get used to it. So I feel the pity for you,K, to have even more of a problem than I can picture. Don't wear the theraputic shoes too long. My cousin had to wear them with her new knees as therapy. That was how I found out about the training strategy. Haze, I feel your pain, too.
Lynn, my feelings re:the advertising. We are here at the pleasure of Mr Peterman. We are here enjoying his empire, and, we have formed a community that would not exist, were it not for the forum, originally designed to display the atributes of his keen EyE for clothes and quality, and style. In the course of the relatively short time I have been a party to this site, we seem to have attracted many, many, contributors; see how many photos have names that do not aspire to identify in the village forum. So,it is quite possible our civility attracts many readers, and in so doing exposes them to the styles and benefits of J.Peterman Co. We should take pride in being able to help sell, and still be able to sit in the Club Car and sip a libation, feet up on the rear platform, watching the scenery pass...
(round of applause) RY PERFECTLY put!!!
KORTHAL Mend quickly but don't try to do too much....
Today's topic is not so far off from our Treasure topic earlier in the week. We were somewhat sidelined that day due to technical problems and heartbreak (Stoney's farewell), but I can certainly understand the fascination with finding this wreckage. The cannibalism, not so much, but just as I love movies shot in the 30s just to look at the costumes and sets, it is so interesting to delve into these "treasures." Someone mentioned (apologies for not remembering who) the King Tut exhibit and how great that was.
I hope I haven't missed the point of the topic....if it was should they spend the money to continue, my vote is Yes.
K- Hasty Healings to you. Just sit back, relax and remember that Jimmy Stewart solved a murder looking out his Rear Window with his leg propped up in a cast. Great piece of cinema.................To Topic....If my death was not murder most foul and my body could be made into a tasty stew to save another's life in dire straits, what the heck. I could possibly taste like kobe beer fed beef? I plan on getting cremated but if not prefer being buried without being injected full of strange chemicals that even the worms wouldn't want or worse locked in a vault without fresh air and living things turning me back into dust. I love my body and it has served me well & have tried to treat it reasonably well and taken it to interesting places. The hope that Sir John might be found at the helm searching for the elusive NW Passage is the stuff legends are made of. I wouldn't mind being found on Everest frozen stiff I guess. My mom taught me early on that the body was just a tool to be used to carry the soul around. I have held that belief to be true. So here we go the light fluffy me and the heavy me partially covered in hair that requires food/water, clothing, and rest. The fluffy part is one day gone and the heavy part remains and then changes back into its most basic form. That to me is beautiful. I won't argue that the fluffy part goes on to do something else. Something bigger and better. Got my own beliefs. Don't force them on others. I do know in between there are so many beautiful experiences and when it is over somehow those experiences are captured by those who come after and sometimes rediscovered in a frozen part of the world beneath the sea. Dreams are like that. Ghosts appear and fade away. I love Gordon Lightfoot's ballad The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Tommy-ever since I was a young 'path'yacht,I was told we are made from the stuff of stars...YOU, Sir,prove it. And to the stuff of stars,we return. Isn't it great to know, when you cast your EyE skyward, and look thru the clear dark night, that all those twinkling dots of light are the stuff of our friends passed, and ancestors of blood and choice, all the way back to the very beginnings....amen
RY- You beautifully wrapped it all up in one big cosmic breakfast burrito. To your amen I say awomen. My new fire pit is almost finished and I look forward to looking up on a crisp cool night very soon and saying Hello out there! How the heck are you? In the past I have gotten a great response, a big old skycard of heavenly beauty saying "Weather is beautiful. Wish you were here!"
To which I reply...Sounds great....but let's not hurry things if that's okay...love it here at Earth Camp and I am waiting for my J Peterman delivery. That Bay Rum stirs up Ms Typical's juices. Could we get together in let's say 50 years or so. In terms of eternity, it's just a wink and a nod.
Hello all! I just wanted you all to know I am finishing the final read through on "The Train Ride" so it can be a Kindle book, sans mistakes and editing boo-boo's. It's time consuming but getting close. My second book, named "A Good Attitude is worth faking and other short stories" will be edited and completed soon.
I read the threads daily, but like my Pop, sometimes think listening is better than talking. I really enjoy how the majority of you frame a thought and string together sentences to make such interesting, cohesive expressions of thought, I am amazed that the internet has brought together so many intellectuals in one small place.
Methinks I will stay a while.
Erebus ( God of Darkness) and Terror are the names of the lost ships in that expedition to find the passage across the frozen tundra to connect the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. One would hope for more uplifting vessels for such a daring adventure! The 138+ lost and frozen souls may have had second thoughts along the way when they realized that they could not get through the ice with those darkly named ships. Since only $500,000 or so has been spent on finding this lost group so far, it would seem feasible to go ahead and try some more to locate the site of the doomed venture for posterity, future attempts.
TT-Thanks once again for your handling of words, and expressing perfectly my own views about our presence both here on Earth and in the Village.
RY -Thanks to you for the statements about our being guests of Mr. P, and thus should be grateful for whatever hospitality in whatever form the site bestows.
Lynn - Good luck to you with the class and much hope for your helping those with substance abuse and dependency...their numbers are legion.
KY, Deb, Andy, Lynn et al - Greetings and good day to you and thanks for your comments, as well...I do look forward to reading here each day, and feeling the personalities that shine through your "handles."
TT your decision to be cremated is the same as my wife and myself. About 15 0r so years ago my mother who was about 94 told of a relative of ours that had recently died and had been cremated. I said I planned on being cremated and her response was" when you are send the ashes to me and I will keep in a nice place." very thoughful and loving. The possibility of her demise never entered her mind.
Pinky just told me to leave some at all the beautiful places I will see, and so, I've done that at those few I've been so far; like Niagra Falls, for the Honeymoon trip we were planning to take on the return from my Neice's wedding in Rhode Island, and in my photo stash here, you see me on Lake Champlain, where some were placed, and the Adirondaks, and some of the roads between. She'd been planning that trip, and the trip she took was to the stars instead. ... ... ...
Good day to all. RoadY, Good 'pay it forward' post of 9:19, you have nice words I enjoy reading! Korthal--ekkk! I hope you heal well and fast, not a fun experience. TomT-Gordon Lightfoot is my all time favorite, his music is enchanting and smooth. Loved your 10:02 post, my thoughts exactly. It's nice to find so many like minded individuals here at the Village. Your words are eloquent and melodic! Ummagawa- much good FORTUNE to you and your books. I just had a book published called DADDY'S MAGIC LUNCHBOX. A true story from an experience I had as a child. Available at Amazon.com and Amazon.com/Uk,Barnes & Noble and others. Much fortune to you!! Burried treasure?? Life is a treasure that we find Burried each moment, but...ONLY IF WE DARE TO LOOK.
T & R, you boys did a good job of summing it up for me as well...beautifully put. The whole idea gets my vote for the honor roll.
I have found that most people have a firm opinion on cremation vs. burial. I can't think of anyone who didn't feel strongly about one or the other...as for me and my husband, we have chosen to be cremated and our ashes scattered to the wind. Never have been one to be contained and the even thought of keeping my ashes in an urn or a box makes me shudder.
As far as cannibalism goes, I say we go with the kobe beef first and then work our way to the jerky in the event we are rescued before we resort to eating a tough, old cow like myself. Besides, the good beef has been marinated in that delectable Bay Rum...
MagicAngel~ I ordered a copy of your book a couple of weeks ago; haven't recieved it yet but I'm lokking for it in the mail. RoadYacht/Tommy Typical/ Paolos/Ivan. et al~ As the tour guides of this intellectual journey we are embarked upon, thank you for your humanity and other qualities!
First off, RY & TT beautiful thoughts expressed above. That's what I love about this place, people who can and do express elegantly beautiful uncontrived sentences. Now........on to the topic. It sounds a lot like the Donner party to me. Extreme measures for extreme times. Do some people cling to hope of rescue so dearly that they can consume the weaker ones among them? oh! almost forgot: Korthal speedy recovery to you! (Stay strong...remember the lessons of the Donners and the Erebus and Terror.....
Miss Korthal ~ While you were off in DC taking a tumble, a young lady in Hawaii was reeling in a 1000 pound, 12 foot Marlin. She was fishing a tournament but needed the help of her mates to reel it in. She lost the prize but they landed the fish. Thought you might enjoy the story in case you missed it.
Paolos~ Given the times, I initially wonderd which Didtrict or State he (the marlin) represented.

Hiccup!
Thank you all for your good wishes.
I posted some photos.
PAOLOS:
1000 lbs, 12 feet. Must have been a blue.
Since it wouldn't come up on the photo. Here it is.

MMMMM....druuugzzz....I used to do drugs in the 60's.....then I stopped careing what the temperature was.....
Korthal~ Sign of the times? I recently read about a Chicago school teacher whose class had gotten completely out of hand. Stern corrective action being in order she made them listen to FRankie for an hour...from then on, the besst behaved class in Chicago.
And through the drifts the snowy clifts
Did send a dismal sheen:
Nor shapes of men nor beasts we ken--
The ice was all between.
The ice was here, the ice was there,
The ice was all around:
It cracked and growled, and roared and howled,
Like noises in a swound!
At length did cross an Albatross,
Thorough the fog it came;
As if it had been a Christian soul,
We hailed it in God's name.
It ate the food it ne'er had eat,
And round and round it flew.
The ice did split with a thunder-fit;
The helmsman steered us through!
Sam Coleridge
George ~ I'd think that listening to Frank for an hour would be a reward, not a punishment.
PAOLOS:
Thanks for the link and I say "Go Molly Palmer".
Paolos~ Me tooo1 Just the times changing around us, I guess.
No such thing as too much Sinatra....
Korthal, so sorry to read of your fall. I'm sneding prayers each day for a quick recovery and that all those test come out for the very best.
What a delightful read the whole of this days entries have been. Thank you.
Not having had a similar experience, but knowing what I know of cold weather and hunger is it possible they burned the ship a plank at a time until there was nothing left but the anchor, pulleys and chains? I did hear that Sir Charles Lambe of the Royal Navy had a recurring dream of being shipwrecked and stranded with his crew in the south seas and was invariably wakened from the nightmare to the words Would someone please pass the leg of Lambe? Those Brits, they never forget their manners.
Hey Mooseloop! Thanks for noticing...No, the Monkeys (1 & 2) are mine. I just kinda got a late start.
Greetings: For the record...again...I miss the side bars.
Cpt Nep--very glad you are aboard. Your absence was noted and there were more than a few shoutouts to you.
Paolos, you are brilliant. The whole idea of eating another human had me ready to sacrifice myself as supper rather than having to endure that cold climate (unless I had plenty of fur coats~speaking of which, where is Ginger?)....and honestly, how else could you eat human flesh without a slow roast?! I've decided they will never find it...the best they could do would be to find little nuts and bolts scattered across the arctic floor...I hope to God they packed plenty of rum...but I'm also betting that was the first thing to go...
At any rate, it was obvious that someone (namely Sir John) had not planned for the worst...or had he?! How else could he entice that many people aboard boats with such dreary names...and what rations were fed these unsuspecting morsels of humanity? Were there not polar bears, walrus or even baby seals? Aboriginese?! For the love of God, were there no HUNTERS aboard the ships?
George, I'm sure that Sinatra was the anecdote for mass murder in that case...it was, in a roundabout way, for the students' benefit....
That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind. Godspeed Neil Armstrong.
again, the stuff of the stars, returns from the stars, and now back to the stars one last time, possibly
For you and pinky, my friend.

It's a boy. 7 lbs. 10 oz. and short but good looking. His godfather and namesake, the walkaway-man, is buttoning up their family fortnight but will be here soon and I will get a photo, notarized permission and try to post it for you.
PAOLOS:
Stardust. One of my favorites.
It always reminds me of my Mom and Dad dancing.
And that brings tears to my eyes.
Paolos-thanks. E
House guest- Mazul Tov! A long and healthy, happy, prospeous life!

House Guest, a new life, tender sweet and precious. God Bless this timy one and keep him safe, healthy and happy.Good wishes and congratulations to you and yours!!
TOMMY T ~ I don't know if you were following it but those Goodletsville Little Leaguers played a heck of a game to get into the WS championship against Tokyo.
Paolo, funny 2:39 post....had me chuckling out loud.
RY and TT...lovely posts. My husband and son's dad, died at 33 and was cremated in 1985. We were rather casual with his cremains,...my son was 8 and kept some of his dad in a small empty chili bottle, which I'd find in various spots around his room....not particularly reverentially handled...but I thought it was ok. I like the thought of him being up in the heavens as a star.
rwh1, your mother sounds like quite a character.
korthal, speedy recovery to you.
House Guest...congratulations!
Rusty, I agree with you ...I've enjoyed all the posts today.
Nice to see Capt Neptune and KC here again.
