I've gone to my farm in Kentucky for the weekend. It's a great place to relax, do a little hard physical labor, and forget about the rest of the world. If you don't have such a place, I highly suggest you get one.
In the meantime, what could Mars and Earth have in common?
See you on Monday.

Nice to know but just think how long it will take to build a water pipeline from there to here.
Now come on....of course there is water...all of us, and all of the stars, are made from the same little, little, little parts...in fact, as a certain Mr Sagen posited, we are all made from the stuff of stars.....and to the stuff of stars,we will return....
The heat wave is officially over! Thanks,in no small part, TO ME! As acting in a way my Father said : "why are you leaving that door open? Ya wanta cool this whole Neighborhuud?!!?" So, acting on your behalf, my fellow Villagers, I turned our air conditioner to ELEVEN, and left the front door open......and obviously, it worked. No thank yous are necessary.....stay cool, hearty fellows....
Thank you RY!
Is the Puffington Host the new Guardian?
Do you know, of course you do,that we are drinking the same water that our anestors drank billions of years ago. Talk about the ultimate in re-cycling!
So this is what the world looks like this early? People reading the Host?
Well, to answer the question at hand, as best my sleepy brain can, we have soil, water, gravity, many minerals, and red dirt in common. Oh, and things running around that look like mini-Coopers.
PS---RoadYacht! Close the door! You're letting all the cold air out! Could you just turn the shower on instead and aim it my way?
..the water quality is not the same..polluted it has to be treated...and the air...oh yea.....but not the same air, unfortunately, air bubbles can be trapped in the deep oceans..and locked in... sort of speakingly... that air is from old times of long ago....being a deep sea diver...I delight in finding air bubbles...but I do not like knowing...that our water....is also, not that pristine..Savannah River Plant...black dust on the east coast....nuclear wastes...or tipping anything with nuclear this or nuclear radons...with that...when I see birth defects often still too...too tooo common, I can not agree that air, water, or food is safe....When I lived in Beaufort,I did not drink the water.....bottled water..but went with it..so to speak...restaraunt table Ice Water...was a wonder, but I drank it...
Where is the BringerofWar when you need him?

There is a good reason Mars is called the RED planet.
The Communist Race was brought here from Mars in a fleet of VW Microbursts.
Both Leon Trotski and his protege Leon Redbone are from Mars.
Also known as Xanadu Mars is where Alf the sacred rover ran before he came to earth to host a talk show.

Now back to the NY Times Crossword. A four letter word synonymous with baseball, not only in Cincinnati but wherever the game is played....hmmmm?
The dragon flies are happy today!! Let's all just rejoice that life is progressive!
"they say(my favorite group to blame all on!) that the last and the first things to live here were/are bacteria. I have to claim my food chain rights and go kill bacteria by brushing my teeth now! Live to fight another day!
We come in peace bearing goat cheese crescent rolls and toasted rye w/ butter & cream cheese...................................oh yeah........................martian up baby! mmmmmmmmmmmmm.............................
CAROL.....................we have tons of dragonflies too! When I take the dogs into the yard our biggest one tries to catch them......................they look so pretty & graceful as they chase each other.........................
paolos ~
What exactly, if you know, is a fairy fay?
If it's disgusting, never mind.
bebe ~
That all sounds delicious.
Paolos -- You know Leon Redbone? I heard and saw him in Little Five Points a few years back, doing his show and singing! How funny and talented! Great entertainer! That gravely, jazzy voice and his dark glasses and Panama hat, always on a stool or straight chair with his guitar or banjo.....different.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZqJ5ogLIGk
Not many people even know of him, but he was a voice in the movie Elf, as well as a voice in many commercials. I did not know (?) of his connections to Trotsky, but his original name and origins might tell you something Martian! "Dickran Gobalian" is not your regular US name! The sources say he was from Cyprus, or Canada, or Philadelphia! Funny combo!
Since I have read sci-fi for years, since my first taste of Heinlein in"Starship Troopers" the concept of life on Mars has been a given in my imagination for over 50 yrs., thus, I enjoyed teaching sci-fi one year in a high school that allowed students to elect an English elective course. I taught a Survey of Science Fiction, as well as a Folklore and Mythology class, which was populated by 90% males, and the minority, females with great imaginations. We had a great time!
I am partial to "Slaves of Mars," "Under Martian Moons," "The Martian Chronicles," and especially fond of the title, "Mars Needs Women!" Laugh if you will, but this could be prophetic!! ( Hee, hee.......;--))

If you haven't seen this flick, "Mars Attacks, " check out the star-studded cast....famous and honored names giving it a go in a comedic send-up about Mars, etc...!! (and don't forget "The Eyes of Laura Mars" a totally different bunch of arty folks who were in a cliche, "on their own planet"!)

Stoney. Fairys ARE fey.
Fair efay .... she was a fair cook....made a passable efay
Stoney ~ you just had to qualify that question with if you know. I don't know. Willie Trask would know, Hazel Leese would know. The best I could do is to make up something, but that isn't the right thing to do. Not on a Sunday afternoon in July.
For a variety of reasons I am struck silent.
My mama used to sing me that song, then read The Pokey Little Puppy to me. Those were the days.
MOOSELOOP~ Dickran Goballan???...strikes my funnybone!
Mars is too hot..too red...desolete....to trot...a nearby ocean...or even Big Phoenix Surf ..sounds like the way to cool off today...and late nite outdoor...fun bar talk with Jim Buffet Margaritas aways with seasalt...preferable... pink color seasalt...
Paolos, you're mom was calling you elflike.
Carolbabcock~ Paolos' Mom was the duck voice on the tv commercials????
GH - Yes, I agree that the Leon Redbone actual birth name is pretty funny, and has room for pun and various permutations of humor! Who names a child "Dickran"? Your first image is of a little boy with a dribble where he doesn't need one! And then there is the cowardly suggestion that Dick avoided confrontation! You apparently made up your own interpretations!
"Gobalian" is hardly a traditional sirname as we expect them in the South, either! I immediately thought of the slimy creature in Lord of the Rings! Maybe Dick was wise to choose Leon....not sure about the connotations of Redbone, but at any rate....memorable, especially if you have heard and seen him....not another like him....unless you could get Bob Dylan to a barber, dress him in a suit, Panama hat, etc.....Maybe they are related? (But then, Dylan was born Robert Allen Zimmerman, so maybe not.) Sorry, Mr. P, as all this name thing is way off topic....Let's see....water on Mars / Leon Redbone -- nope, can't link.
Mooseloop~ no water on the surface of Mars- - dry as a red bone....there ya go....
I don't know, RY, was she?
When she sang that he was her little fairy fey she was calling him elflike.
Big difference between Fairy fay and Fairy fey. First is associated with Jack the ripper and the second means exactly as Carol said--elfish.
Has any one else noticed the dog pushing the gate closed in the opening picture Mr. P. has provided to symbollize his farm. Could that be Floyd?
No, Rusty~ Floyd is a long leggedy wire coated scruffy dog.
Read on a t-shirt in a bookstore window display....... 'I read dead people'. Me too !
Beam me up bebe......... To the planet where goat cheese, cream cheese and crackers grow on trees......short trees
May I share a branch with y ou?
You know that today is a good day.... to make wine-flavored popsicles... and one time I attempted pumpkin ice cream pie.... Feta cheese is a favorite...so I am freezing.together as a popsicle...... fresh goat cheese layered with the frozen red grape..."very grape," wine ... called this new product: Goatwinesicles ...delicious, edible, delectible...and darn tootin good....in 93 degree heat...Mars must have alot of frozen delectibles...to help tolerate the on-going heat!! probably they eat "Aqua Pops..".made with their underground unseeable water...!
CHEFD........................me thinks me knows why you is struck silent ( but not dumb!)...........................
PL.....................there aren't enough branches............................will drive the planet to you & CHEFD.........................
CAROL...................sorry, I thought that was you.....................
PARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRK................................where art thou? You might as well add your two pecans.......................or walnuts, or peanuts.......................
I heard from a little bird...NOT P4!..(crosses fingers behind back) that it is PL's birthday. May it be joyous and filled with triple scoop ice cream cones that don't give you brain freeze. iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii< candles make a wish!
Marvin who sounded remarkably like Mel Blanc covered my 5 Wood for years and often brought me a splash of Martian water for my whiskey. The canals on the Red Planet are navigated by gondoliers in JP striped shirts and often stop to wave at Voyager and the boys in Houston who often have problems.
Thank you dear friend Penn!
Peter Lake a very "Happy Birthday," with very best wishes for the year...you are now all of ?...years....of age....enjoy...Bee Happy! :) .....sent a Birthday photo on the community page, picture of art...from Pittsburgh PA...
Thank you EthelRose. Very thoughtful.
PENN.......................great to see you tonight.....................hope all is well in your piece of the world......................it's about curl up in bed & read time here.....................be well.........................
TommyT---Wondered when someone would weigh in with Marvin and Mel! How about "My Favorite Martian?"
EthelRose---If you want to talk pollution, I'm your gal. Worked hazardous waste sites for far too many years not to know where they are and where not to step (or drink the water).
MooseLoop---Wish I could have been there for your course! LOVE sci-fi! I nominate Dune for our Mars! Then we could all have spice! Live long and prosper! Also, you've GOT to have been in ATL to have been at Little Five Points! Used to live there myself! (Not Little Five Points, mind you, but metro ATL.)
