I've gone to my farm in Kentucky for the weekend. It's a great place to relax, do a little hard physical labor, and forget about the rest of the world. If you don't have such a place, I highly suggest you get one.

In the meantime, this may be some good news for those suffering with paralysis.

Small steps.

See you on Monday.

We all know those in such situations.

Pray that this approach will be successful, that there will be a meaningful breakthrough.

And thank you -- yes, thank you -- to the rats for their contributions.

Maybe there is hope.

Another promising application for stem cell therapy is
repair/ regeneration of human retinas.

Ivan, as you know, there are many sources for stem cells,
not just intentionally aborted fetuses. I believe it's G-d's will that humanity
do GOOD ...this is a good thing. I'm alarmed to hear of the closing of the U.S.
research facility; we are rapidly headed to the rank of second rate  nation.

Xoxo to all...

Hazel....Happy Birthday, a few days early.

IVAN ~ I can't say that I ever fully understood the arguments about harvesting stem cells.  It was once explained to me that the cells are harvested from embryos that were created in vitro and then frozen.  These embryos would be discarded if not used.  Rather than discard them, the couples who created them donated them for research.  I have yet to find a logical argument against using cells obtained this way.  Maybe I'm missing something.  This is a short but informative article from 2008 that explains later developments from private research.  The research will continue whether it is federally funded or not.  There are certainly less productive ways to waste our tax dollars.

Hooray for all research that improves humans' lives!

Think of all the people who may be helped by regeneration of vital cells.

As Miss Blue states, we were given brains and intelligence to solve problems and use our wits to improve our human condition. I don't think we should count on angels or magic, but rather, the smarts of those who have the inclination to find out new things about the body and how it works. You go, scientists!

Enjoy your day!

Coffee. Cats. Conversation. Congregating @ the Confluence of mind, body, & soul in a commonplace called Front Porch in a time called Sunday Morning. Since the Pioneers discovered the power of the electron moving invisibly with unlimited power. And they can heal. As Von Braun thought- "Can a physicist visualize an electron? The electron is materially inconceivable and yet, it is so perfectly known through its effects that we use it to illuminate our cities, guide our airlines through the night skies and take the most accurate measurements. What strange rationale makes some physicists accept the inconceivable electrons as real while refusing to accept the reality of a Designer on the ground that they cannot conceive Him?"

I also hope that the research is fruitful.  Imagine the paralyzed walking again.  I know that the whole issue of disgarded in vitrio fetuses is a confusion for some and I would join you in prayer.  That whole arena is in an unfortunate state with each side screaming at each other rather than trying to figure out what to do.  The demagogues have prevailed on both sides.  I also have a June birthday, but am a year ahead, completing my 68th and starting my 69th.  Yes, it beats the alternative.  Life is sweet.

Dr. Frankenstein's fatal flaws (aside from his tremendous
ego) were not his attempts to unravel the secret of life. It was his inability
to take responsibility for his actions, abandonment of his creation, labeling
it a failure i.e. monster and his unwillingness to deal with the consequences
of his work.

Happy Birthday Mooseloop!

Ohhh, so sorry to confuse the birthday issues....My birthday is Jan. 23 (1-23-45), but I was giving that example of how we calculate how old we are, as if most folks think you are just the number for a whole year, however, you are completing the number when you get a birthday, like a child has to live a whole year to get his first birthday, so when one turns , say, 70, he has been in his 70th yr. for 11 mo. already, and is actually starting his 71st yr. the next day..

...Overly-long explanation, but meant to dispel the idea that we are younger than we are.....No, Hazel and Lynn deserve the June felicitations, but mine come around in January. Thanks for the good wishes, anyway! We all like to lift a toast for just being here, and for the camaraderie of the Eye every day!!

I am celebrating having 4 daylilies blooming, in spite of the ravenous deer!! I have been spraying Liquid Fence (smelly stuff) around the bloom buds and tryng to protect them from our herds, and now some are blooming!..Yea!

Since my neighbor across the road has installed a large industrial size deer corn feeder, the herds congregate just a few feet from my front yard, and I can see them eyeing the daylilies as if for dessert!! It is my stinky spray VS Nature!

Now I'm really confused - Happy Birthday to whoever it may concern. Oddly, several of my very best friends (haha! I typod that as beast fiends) have the same birthday as me or a day or two on either side.
Today's topic - How marvellous it would be to restore mobility to paralysed people. In the course of my work, I met plenty of them and they talked to me about how undignified it is having to wear nappies, to be spoon-fed like a baby - or even worse tube fed through a hole in your abdomen, to spend hours in bed staring at the ceiling or get bum sores from hours sitting in a wheelchair - and those were the ones who were capable of speech, to be bathed like a baby, to be unable to take part in family activities, or even worse to end up in a 'care' home. Goodness, some of them were so thankful for me to come in (a stranger) hold their hand, listen, brush their hair and give them a hands and face wash to cool them down. What a lousy life. A visit I'd got pencilled in as one hour would end up being two - what the hell! How did Jesus manage that 'Thake up thy bed and walk' miracle? I often wished I knew.

Should explain that 'Fiddyl yn yr to' comes from the days before television or radio, when families would tell stories, recite poems and sing. If there was somebody who owned a fiddle (violin) other people would gather in the house for a good sing-song. The Mrs of the house would announce 'Fiddyl yn yr to' as a big hint that the party for that night was over.
